In the opening game of the fifth window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, which took place early Friday morning (Philippine Time) at the Prince Hamza Hall in Amman, Gilas Pilipinas relied on a strong second half to defeat Jordan by a score of 74-66. This was the first time Jordan had lost at home since 2018.

Gilas regained control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Jordan by a score of 21-10 to take a 58-51 advantage into the final period of play.

Gilas would go on to expand their advantage to as much as 13, 71-58, with almost three minutes remaining in the game before Jordan closed the game strong to make it a more respectable deficit.

Gilas moved up to 4-3 in Group E play thanks to Kai Sotto’s solid offensive game. Sotto led Gilas with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. He also had seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Sotto’s defensive struggles against Ahmad Al-Dwairi were more than compensated for by his solid offensive game.

Ray-Ray Parks finished the game with 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists. He kept Gilas in the game on the road with some hot shooting from long range in the first half.

In the absence of Kiefer Ravena, the responsibility of starting point guard fell on Scottie Thompson, who came near to achieving a triple-double by scoring eight points, grabbing thirteen rebounds, and dishing out eight assists.

For Jordan, which now has a record of 3-4, Dar Tucker scored 23 points, grabbed three rebounds, and dished out two assists, and Al-Dwairi added 18 points, 16 rebounds, and three assists.
